Judy Krueger is a fresh new talent emerging on the acoustic music scene. With lyrics that read as poetry and eternal melodies, she takes on the realities of life in a confused world and yet conveys a sense of hope and possibility...
The
first thing that gets you is the voice--seemingly effortless,
melodic lines and so easy to listen to. With her uncomplicated
acoustic guitar arrangements and long hair, this is obviously a
folksinger. Then come the stories--song by song she tells of
people and events, weaving the everyday into the universal.
Judys delivery of a song creates a direct, emotional
connection with the listener.
Judy Krueger grew up in Princeton,
N.J., spent her young adult years in Ann Arbor, MI., moving to Los
Angeles in 1991. She learned to read music at the same time as she
learned to read, thanks to her music-teacher Mom. Throughout her
school years she studied piano and violin, sang in any choir she
could get into and devoured books.
She won her first songwriting
contest in the 4th grade and her first short-story contest in 7th
grade. In her late teens she discovered folk music and took up the
acoustic guitar. I love a good song more than anything. The
challenge of condensing a story and a viewpoint into a few verses
and a chorus is like a good game to me, she says.
After a decade of making a living as
bandleader and lead singer on the TOP 40 cover band circuit in
Michigan (and raising her two sons on her earnings), Judy arrived
in Los Angeles just as the coffeehouse scene and singer/songwriter
genre were having a rebirth. In June, 1996 she released a
self-produced 6 song cassette EP, Simple
Songs For A Complex Age. Joe
Seta, creator of the Artist
Underground internet site
called it an intensely personal listening
experience.
Her first full-length CD,
After
All, was released in
November, 1997 on Judys own label, OffWorld
Records. The songs cover
womens issues, divorce, unfaithfulness, the pitfalls of
friendship and the longing for a world at peace. The high-quality
production of Judys voice and acoustic guitar earned her
radio play on folk stations around the United States. A rave
review in Independent Songwriter Web Magazine said:
Judys songwriting is uncluttered and uncompromised.
Her music is nothing short of incredible. A revolutionary new
sound and exciting creativity.
1998 was a year of intense activity
for Judy. She played over 150 shows including several of Los
Angeles premier acoustic showcases and toured throughout
California as well as in the Midwest. She also wrote new material
and recorded her second CD in Nashville with Johnny Pierce,
producer for Americana singer-songwriter Kate Campbell.
The new CD, entitled
Keep
the Wisdom, features full
production with top Nashville session players and Judys
signature writing style. She continues to face life, love and
social issues with honesty, spirituality and artistry. Following
the CDs release in May 1999, Judys tour schedule
covers nine states on the West Coast and in the Midwest.
Living is certainly hard, but
I have a strong belief in the basic goodness of people and each
ones ability to make a life a work of art. Through her
straightforward, honest stories in song, Judy brings you her
vision and at least for a moment you believe it as well.
